Stained Glass and Oriental Rugs: Keeping Alive Traditional Crafts

Visit and Talk | The Rodd

Wednesday 24 July 2013 - 10:30 until 16:00

Meet at the Rodd, home of the Sydney Nolan trust just outside Presteigne. Nicola Hopwood will give an illustrated talk on the History of Stained Glass from Medieval to Contemporary works. A practising stained glass artist, Nicola has designed and made windows for churches, public buildings and houses across the country. Afterwards there will be a chance to see some of the Sydney Nolan Trust's paintings.

After a picnic lunch the visit will continue to 'The Workhouse Gallery' in Presteigne, where Sara and David Bamford have established a centre where they design and restore carpets and oriental rugs. Sara will talk about the work they undertake and there will be a chance to see the workshop and studio. The workhouse was restored and made many carpets for well known institutions, including the National Trust.

This event has been organised by a local supporter group to help raise money for the Art Fund.
