Bologna: An Artistic Treasure House

|

Bologna is so often associated with gastronomy, business and communism that its importance as an artistic treasure house is sometimes neglected. This city is full of marvellous buildings, including the medieval churches of San Petronio and Santo Stefano, and the Palazzo Poggi and Palazzo Magnani, built during the Renaissance. Bologna’s art gallery contains paintings of the highest quality, particularly from the 16th and 17th century. Great artists such as Giambologna received commissions for public works of art; more recently, Giorgio Morandi has also left his mark on the city.
