Delve into the universe of radical British artist, printmaker and poet William Blake and the romantic painters that influenced him.
Delve into the world of William Blake and the fascinating group of artists he was influenced by, who similarly imbued their lives and art with spirituality during a tumultuous period marked by war, revolution and political turbulence. This exhibition challenges the preconception that Blake was a lone genius acting on his own, and instead was inspired by wider trends and themes that were popular in European art at the time.
The largest-ever display of works by Blake from the Fitzwilliam's collection will be exhibited alongside his contemporaries, including the German romantic painters Philipp Otto Runge and Caspar David Friedrich.
