The fascinating story of the style, influence and appeal of the kimono
Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk challenges the perception of the kimono as a static symbol, showcasing its evolution as a dynamic fashion icon. Spanning from the 1660s to the present, the exhibition explores the kimono's cultural and fashion significance in Japan and globally.
Rare 17th and 18th-century pieces are juxtaposed with designs by major fashion figures, film costumes, and modern interpretations by emerging designers. Curated by Anna Jackson and Josephine Rout for the V&A, the exhibition not only delves into history but also examines the kimono's contemporary resurgence on Japanese streets.
