Lecture by Shirley Smith 'Isabella d'Este'. Tour of American Cemetery

Talk and Tour | Madingley Hall

Wednesday 5 April 2017 - 11:00 until 03:30

Shirley Smith specialises in Italian and Renaissance art and architecture and will talk about Marchioness of Mantua, 'Isabella d'Este', one of the greatest patrons of the arts and an important political figure. So how did this remarkable lady achieve this renown and how did she overcome the strictures of her gender and of her often somewhat limited purse? The lecture will be held at the 16th century Madingley Hall set in its magnificent gardens.

In the afternoon there will be a tour of the nearby American Cemetery with its £3,808 headstones, wall of the missing and the memorial chapel designed by Perry, Shaw, Hepburn and Dean.

This event has been organised by the Suffolk Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
