Half day study day at the Museum of East Asian Art, Bath
Study Day | Museum of East Asian Art
Wednesday 2 November 2016 - 10:30 until 16:00
Dr Nicole Chiang, Curator of the Museum of East Asian Art has kindly agreed to offer two separate half day study days at the museum.
This small museum is in the heart of Bath, just behind the Assembly Rooms, and is often missed by visitors. It is a unique gem, well worth a visit. The museum is based on the personal collection of Brian S McElney and is dedicated to the understanding and appreciation of East and Southeast Asian arts and culture. The museum over the years has been supported by the Art Fund, including supporting the purchase of three Chinese pieces of porcelain commissioned in the 18th century by Bath families, a Japanese porcelain figure and an ancient bronze wine vessel.
The half day study days will start with an in-depth guided tour of the museum, its artefacts and history. This will be followed by a very special opportunity to handle a selection of the artefacts, and understand them in depth.
Because of the nature of the visit each half day is limited to 10 people. The museum has a lift.
Please note that participants must not wear rings if they wish to handle the artefacts, since they are fragile.
This event has been organised by the Bristol and Bath Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
