Behind the Scenes at the London Coliseum

| London Coliseum

At the magnificently restored London Coliseum, the 100-year-old theatre is now sparkling with gilt and marble, draped in purple and dripping with tassels. Old staircases have been opened up, ceilings have disappeared and every scrap of matt beige paint has been removed from the auditorium. Theatre historian Sarah Lenton will take the tour from the top of the theatre (the balcony) right down to the bottom (the orchestra pit). The Coliseum is a working theatre, so alongside the Edwardian splendour, you'll be seeing 21st-century stage technology and something of the busy life of an opera company. The theatre is also famous for its ghosts, but their appearance cannot be guaranteed. Please note that this visit involves lots of stairs and that disabled access is not provided backstage.
