Follow Beijing-based artist Zhang Yanzi’s exploration of the nature and meaning of wellness in China.

Tracing the history of wellness in China and looking at modern practices in the light of that investigation, artist Zhang Yanzi explores our common frailties and shared humanity.

The quest for wellness is a quest for mental and physical reassurance, whether it’s to be found in the warmth of herbal-infused concoctions, contemplation of the mysteries of the universe, or pills – the modern world’s distillation of medical knowledge, which also offer promises of remedy and wellbeing.

A parallel exhibition of Yanzi’s art, A Quest for Healing, is also on display at Surgeons’ Hall Museums, Edinburgh.
