Art & Ideas: Stitching Workshop with Richard McVetis is temporarily closed until further notice. Please check the venue's website for the latest details.
Join us for a one-day workshop of stitching with textile artist Richard McVetis.
In this workshop you will learn traditional hand embroidery techniques and create your own stitched piece.
The day will begin with a tour of the House, looking at the textiles and embroidery in the collection. You will learn how to work a stitch in different threads and to change its scale and spacing, to combine stitches, to mark-make and draw. The workshop will explore the tenderness, slowness and rhythms of hand stitching.
Practical help will be given and no knowledge of particular and precise embroidery techniques is needed. You will come away with a unique and beautiful stitched piece.
Booking required, includes private tour, refreshments and 10% discount in the cafe, lunch not included.
About the tutor
Richard uses a range of media, including drawing, installation, and textiles, to explore our perception of space and time. His minimalist work is an endless exploration, not just of form but of the reclamation and potential of process and repetition — a step-by-step examination of perspective and scale which unearths the human condition.
Richard was included in the 2019 TOAST Re-New display at Kettle’s Yard.
