The focus of this visit to Southampton City’s Art Gallery will be a behind-the-scenes tour of conservation studios with the Conservation Officer, having a look at how they undertake remedial and preventive work to conserve paintings and their frames.

In addition to the Conservation tour attendees can also visit the gallery’s renowned permanent collection. The core of the collection is British 20th century and contemporary art but also includes paintings dating from the Renaissance period through to the 19th century. Access to the current exhibition ‘Beyond Brotherhood: The Pre-Raphaelite Legacy’ is also free. This exhibition draws on loans and the Gallery’s own collection to explore the Pre-Raphaelite legacy into the 1920’s and 30’s and through modern day fantasy art to show how this remains a ‘living tradition’.

This event has been organised by the Wiltshire Fundraising Committee Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
