The Athenaeum Club SOLD OUT

Visit | The Athenaeum Club

Friday 3 November 2017 - 10:15 until 12:00

Commanding a corner of Pall Mall and decorated with a frieze copied from the marbles from the Parthenon, the Athenaeum Club, designed by Decimus Burton in 1824 when he was only 24 years old, was founded as a meeting place for people who enjoy the life of the mind. It became one of the earliest buildings to be lit by electricity, due to the inventiveness of its first secretary, Michael Faraday. Members of the club today are professionals in many fields, and among the most distinguished are 52 past and present Nobel Prize winners. A private tour of the Athenaeum is led by the current club secretary.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
