Nikta Mohammadi: Memory Stone

23 March - 5 May 2024

Discover migrant narratives in the British countryside through Nikta Mohammadi's immersive film installation

Memory Stone is an immersive film installation by Nikta Mohammadi, originally from Tehran and now based in West Yorkshire, that delves into dreams and displacement within the British countryside, altering the gallery space with a compelling video display and evocative soundscape by composer Babak Mirsalari.

Blending sci-fi and Iranian mythology, Mohammadi animates the landscape, exploring how the migrant experience is physically and psychologically connected to the land. The film intertwines folklore and rituals from Iran and Yorkshire, revealing a captivating narrative through a rambler's journey and unearthed memories. The project's development involved workshops with the Farsi-speaking Doosti group, adding migrant perspectives to the exploration of foreign lands' ghostly imprints.
