James Thornhill’s Painted Hall at Greenwich - Sold out

Lecture | York Medical Society Rooms

Friday 3 November 2017 - 14:00 until 16:00

A lecture on James Thornhill's Painted Hall at Greenwich by Dr. Richard Johns of the University of York's Department of History of Art. Created between 1708 and 1727 and recently restored, the Painted Hall was Thornhill’s greatest work, the largest and most impressive painted interior ever produced in England. The talk explores the rich iconography of Thornhill’s design within the site-specific context of Greenwich and in the light of eighteenth century Britain’s ever-changing relationship with Europe.

This event has been organised by the York & East Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
