Wapping Walk One: From St.Katherine Docks

Led by by City Blue-badge guide Anne-Marie Craven. Starting with the nunnery founded by Queen Matilda which in the early 19th century was transformed into a secure dock, and transformed again in the 1980s into a vibrant marina with restaurants, shops and glamorous apartments. Then along the river to see LCC housing compared to regenerated and refurbished warehouses. Hear about the river’s history of piracy, pubs and police. Visit a high Anglican church funded by the people and then finish at the entrance to the tunnel under the Thames. If there is time a detour will be made to look at Tobacco dock and the surrounding development.
