Bristol Art Gallery - all things Chinese - SOLD OUT

Guided Tour | Bristol Museum and Art Gallery

Thursday 28 January 2016 - 14:30 until 17:00

Bristol has one of the best collections of Chinese Ceramics and Glass in the country. This tour gives an indepth insight to the collections. Two excellent speakers and experts will lead the group through the afternoon. There will be two short talks: one by Simon Baker (recently awarded an MA with distinction from Bristol University for his dissertation and study of the Museum and Art Galleries benefactors and their collections) on Bristol’s Chinese collection – collectors and their benefactions: the Schillers, Dulverton, and Burrows Abbey through the Art Fund 1946-53. The second will be by Kate Newnham, Curator and Chinese specialist on visiting Jingdezhen and Shanghai in preparation for the ‘Ahead of the Curve’ exhibition: contemporary Chinese ceramic and glass artists. The group will then have a gallery tour and collection highlights, with an opportunity to view selected objects and recent acquisitions.

The tour will end with an update on future plans for the gallery’s renovation and refurbishment and ambitions for future acquisitions. A very full and fascinating afternoon – there will also be an opportunity for teas and coffees.

This event has been organised by the Bristol and Bath Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
