The Ashmolean meets the Art Fund - SOLD OUT

Special Event | Ashmolean Museum

Tuesday 20 October 2015 - 11:00 until 12:45

Alexander (Xa) Sturgis, New Ashmolean Director, and Stephen Deuchar, Art Fund Director discuss 'Challenges for collections today and the choices and dilemmas facing Art Fund Trustees.'

This is the first opportunity in Oxfordshire to meet both Xa Sturgis, the new Ashmolean Director, and Stephen Deuchar, Art Fund Director. The event will begin with an onstage conversation between the Directors about the challenges of collecting today, with particular reference to the Ashmolean. Stephen will then speak about the choices and dilemmas faced by the Art Fund Trustees: which museums should receive grants, should the Art Fund support antiquities over contemporary commissions, what influences their decisions. He will also talk about the future and priorities as membership and funds increase. The Q&A session with both Directors and audience will follow.

This event has been organised by the Oxfordshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
