Regent's Park by the Sea: exploring Burtons' St Leonards

| St Leonards

The new town of St Leonards was the inspiration of the great builder of Bloomsbury, James Burton (17611837) and later enlarged by his son the architect Decimus Burton (18001881). Founded in 1828, it is a unique example of Regency town planning, combining the NeoClassic with the Picturesque, built in and around a residential park. In the morning we will have a guided walking tour and after lunch, in a seaside restaurant, we will visit Hastings Museum to see the Burton archives followed by an illustrated talk. The day involves some quite hilly walking.
