Visit to Dumfries House
| Dumfries House
‘Preventing the break-up of a masterpiece’ was the description given to Dumfries House and its contents. This was a great challenge for The Art Fund which gave an initial pledge of £2 million (later increased to £2.25 million) and hence got the campaign going. Hard work behind the scenes attracted several major donations, before the intervention of HRH The Prince of Wales brought the campaign to a successful end.
The Prince was quoted as saying ‘I could not be more grateful to The Art Fund for its role in this intervention’.
