Lecture: Seville - Beyond Islam

Mariam Rosser-Owen will look at the legacy of Islamic art in Spain, exploring how Islamic styles were incorporated into the art made for Christian patrons (the Mudejar). Seville's rich architectural heritage includes the cathedral bell-tower, known at the giralda, and the Alcazar, the royal palace built in the fashionable Alhambra style. In the 16th century, Islamic styles blended with the new Renaissance style imported from Italy, developing a uniquely Iberian hybrid.
