This new exhibition features 50 works by Meirion Jones and Joanna Jones. Meirion's work is predominantly landscapes and seascapes of South West Wales, while Joanna's paintings are all expressionistic landscapes and seascapes of Pembrokeshire.
Joanna says, "The source of my inspiration is the topography of West Wales and the powerful sense of space and drama that this landscape holds. It is a conintually changing land, and so is my repsonse to it. As a result, my palette has become wider, based primarily on earth colours punctuated with the occasional discordant note. The projection is a move in the direction of semi-abstraction and a less clearly defined emotional response to vast areas which are as unpredictable as they are overwhelming."
Meirion states, "My paintings are inspired by light, be that the light which bounces off the Celtic Sea in Pembrokeshire, the lyrical 'contre jour light' which brings a landscape to life with all its tonal relationships, or the light silhouetting a cockle woman at Swansea market. I return again and again to certain places in Wales which have a physical and emotional pull, familiar places in the native landscape whose rhythm and personality are timeless, and yet again constantly changing."
