Revealing how Leonardo used drawing to record and understand the world around him.

Drawing was Leonardo’s preferred form of expression; he maintained that an image transmitted knowledge more accurately than words. His notebooks were filled with sketches of beasts, bodies, dissections, botanical studies, rock formations, whirlpools, flying machines and architecture.

Around 600 of these are held in the Royal Collection, of which 10 highlights have been chosen for a national tour during 2016-17. The selection reflects the polymathic nature of the great Renaissance man.
