A Morris-inspired photographic exhibition, inspired by Shonibare's visits to the gallery.

Last summer the Walthamstow-based gallery issued an open-call to local residents, inviting them to take part in a new project by the renowned textile artist and Turner Prize-nominee. After spending an afternoon with Shonibare, several of the hopefuls were cast to play William Morris and his relatives in a restaging of family photographs from the collection.

They were dressed in Victorian costumes the artist fashioned from African batik. Now on display in the Morris’ former home, the photographic series marks the first major commission for the gallery.
