Buckland Abbey was founded by the Cistercians in 1275 and sold at the dissolution to Sir Richard Genville who began converting the building to be his home. He captained the Mary Rose when it capsized on the Solent in 1545 and his son, then three, completed the conversion. It became the home of Sir Francis Drake for 15 years. This a National Trust property so please bring your membership card, if applicable. Lunch is available at the Ox Yard Restaurant or you may bring a picnic. In the afternoon visit Shilstone House, acquired by Sebastian and Lucy Fenwick in 1997 and completely restored.

This event has been organised by the Somerset Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
