Lecture: 'Phoenix from the Ashes - British Silver since 1900', by Martin Ellis (Worcester)

| Royal Grammar and Alice Ottley School

Martin Ellis has curated major collections of decorative and fine art in Blackburn and Birmingham, and was until recently Principal Curator and Head of Collections, Research and Development at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This talk charts the extraordinary journey of silver design in Britain from Arts & Crafts handwork at the beginning of the twentieth century, through near disappearance after the Second World War to its brilliant craft-led renaissance in the past two decades. The Art Fund has helped Birmingham to acquire several examples.

Followed by wine and light refreshments.
