A series of delicately woven maps explore powerful themes around global division.

Investigating the notions of borders, migration, inequality and citizenship, Reena Kallat’s maps contain intertwining thread, rubber stamps and flags – all these little details become tools to address political and social boundaries and global inequalities. While rivers, flora and fauna commonly used as symbols for nations become a glossary of signs, used to highlight hierarchies of power and notions of enmity and harmony.

The artist’s own family past coincided with the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, demonstrated here by a constant thread running through the exhibition.
