Celebrate the distinct creative coastline of Essex, Kent and East Sussex and explore art inspired by mesmerising water landscapes.
Mariana Castillo Deball’s kaleidoscopic practice combines visual art with archaeology, science and history to make installations, performances, sculptures and text-based pieces. She focuses on different forms and languages to reveal the role of objects and stories in our histories and identities.
Deball will draw on the ancient and more recent geological and social history of the Essex, Kent and East Sussex areas, exploring the uniqueness of each location. The exhibition will feature contemporary art situated on and made in response to this breathtaking coastline, and uncover the creative spirit of each place through the stories of people that live there.
Commissioned artists include Andreas Angelidakis, Mariana Castillo Deball, Holly Hendry, Jasleen Kaur, Katrina Palmer, Pilar Quinteros and Michael Rakowitz. Partner institutions are Turner Contemporary, Creative Folkestone, Cement Fields, Metal Southend, Towner Eastbourne, the De La Warr Pavilion and Hastings Contemporary. Curated by Tamsin Dillon.
