Samson Kambalu’s thought-provoking flags will appear all around the Southbank Centre site.

These colourful creations by artist, academic and author Samson Kambalu were created during lockdown and play with the idea of national and individual sovereignty. Kambalu explores the visual iconography of flags around the world, drawing out links to emancipatory movements such as Pan-Africanism and Black Lives Matter.

Improvised in the same way a DJ does with music, Samson Kambalu’s flags also take inspiration from the artist’s musical background studying music, instruments and musician’s perspectives.
