The 54 works in this show highlight the main trends in painting from the birth of Impressionism to the Bloomsbury era, focusing on the way that artists have investigated light.

Along the way it asks whether British artists simply followed French innovations or whether they developed a distinctly British way of working. On the walls will be works by Vanessa Bell, Boudin, Cézanne, Stanhope Forbes, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Sickert, Sisley and Steer. This is the second venue for this exhibition, which opened in Exeter at the end of last year, and it runs concurrently with a show of Gainsborough landscapes that started at Bath's Holburne Museum.
