David Merry, Liveryman of the Goldsmiths’ Company, one of the City of London’s guilds, leads a tour of the mid-19th-century livery hall and the assay office, where precious metals are assessed and hallmarked. Tools used for hand-marking the metals can be seen and there is the opportunity to watch staff at work and hear about all aspects of the industry, from the verification of antiques to the seizing of counterfeits.

This event has been organised by the London Fundraising Committee Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
