Manchester Cathedral and Chetham’s Library

Guided Tour | Manchester Catherdral

Thursday 23 March 2017 - 11:45 until 15:00

Behind the Scenes tour of Manchester Cathedral. There is a lot to discover including the 15th century hanging ditch bridge - a scheduled ancient monument, medieval quires and 16th century misericords including the newly installed hope window.

Tour of Chetham’s Library, by Dr Michael Powell. See some of the rare books from this wonderful collection. The well preserved medieval building houses the oldest public library in the English speaking world and a 15th century baronial hall. In the Reading Room you can see the desk and alcove where Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx studied together in 1845.

This event has been organised by the Lancashire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
