'Indigenous Australia' by Curator Gaye Sculthorpe

Talk | Australia House

Tuesday 23 June 2015 - 19:00 until 20:30

With kind permission of the Australian High Commission, our talk by Curator Gaye Sculthorpe provides rich background to the British Museum BP exhibition ‘Indigenous Australia: enduring civilisation’ which presents a history of Indigenous Australia through objects, and celebrates the cultural strength and resilience of both Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders since a British colony was established in 1788. Objects from the Museum’s own collection, loans from Australian museums and commissioned artworks also serve to explore the complex relationships Indigenous Australians have with the natural world and their response to changing historical circumstances. A remarkable story of an enduring civilisation whose story is still unfolding today.

This event has been organised by the London Events Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
