Four Day Trip to Dublin

| Dublin

17 – 21 October 2011 - 16:00 until 16:00

The Arts Fund in Dyfed proposes an interesting tour to Dublin in October 2011. Travel will be in a luxury, Richards Brothers Coach which will pick up passengers in Carmarthen and Haverfordwest before crossing to Ireland from Fishguard. Accomodation will be in the four star Ashling Hotel, which is five minutes by tram from the centre of the city.

Included tours are

1) A visit, led by an expert art guide, to the European Gallery of the National Gallery of Ireland, followed by a visit with the same guide to the Book of Kells. The major attraction in the European Gallery is a fairly recently acquired Caravaggio, The Taking of Christ.

2) A visit to the Chester Beatty Library followed by a guided tour of Dublin Castle. The library has a remarkable collection of ancient manuscripts. One gallery contains a permanent exhibition which takes the visitor through the world's major religions. It includes some of the earliest Gospel fragments in existence. The other is used for special displays which are changed regularly.

3) Georgian Dublin. The Curator of Number 29, Dublin's Georgian Museum, will meet us and give a talk. He will arrange for us to have a conducted tour of the museum, a house which has been furnished as it would have been around 1800, and arrange entry for us into some nearby properties which are not open to the public.

An evening theatre visit, at extra cost, can be arranged for any who are interested.
