Printmaking and Print Collecting

| McCrum Theatre

Anthony Hopkinson has been a printmaker for the last ten years and has exhibited widely in Cambridge and London. He is a member of the Cambridge Drawing Society and regularly takes part in Cambridge Open Studios which take place every July. Some examples of his work will be used to demonstrate a particular process and he will also be showing the work of some of our local printmakers.
Printing has a history going back to Rubens and Rembrandt and is enjoying a surge in popularity. Many recent or contemporary painters are also printers - Picasso, Lucien Freud, Howard Hodgkin, David Hockney, to name a few. This lecture will give an explanation of the techniques of etching, drypoint, lithography, screenprinting, wood cutting and wood engraving. We shall look at the work of some Cambridge printmakers of today.
