Lecture with Lars Tharp

To Northumberland and Yorkshire: On Her (Russian) Majesty's Wedgwood Service

Lars Tharp, author, lecturer and broadcaster is a specialist in European Ceramics and Oriental Works of Art. Since 1985 he has appeared regularly on television, most famously on the BBC Antiques Roadshow. This is an opportunity to learn about the 'Green Frog Service' commissioned by Catherine the Great in 1774, with each piece being painted with an English, Scottish or Welsh view. of the 1100 scenes around 120 represent houses, castles, ruins, landscapes and other prospects depicting sites in Northumberland and Yorkshire. Lars will give a history of the 'Frog Service', how within a year of being commissioned it was delivered to St Petersburg (where it remains today) and in the talk takes a closer look at some of the Northumbrian/ Yorkshire views.
