A listed World Heritage site, the venue is one of the 10 award winning Ironbridge Gorge Museums.

Housed in a gothic-style warehouse beside the River Severn, the Museum of the Gorge uses archive film and interactive technology to explain the area's historical significance.

In summer 2015 the museum underwent a £25,000 refurbishment, which was made possible thanks to a campaign on the Art Fund's crowdfunding platform, Art Happens. The project saw the collection redisplayed in new cases, an upgrade to the lighting, new interpretation panels and enhanced equipment installed in the auditorium.

Permanent collection

Thanks to a 12-metre long model, visitors can see what the Gorge was like in 1796. From a royal carriage crossing the Iron Bridge, to the cargo on the Severn Trow and the tiny figure toiling in a coal mine, it's a chance to learn about life in the valley in the 18th century.

Local products are also on display with an explanation of the manufacturing methods used to make them. Following refurbishment, the collection of tiles, ceramics and cast-iron objects has been rehoused in bespoke cases.
