Mervyn O'Gorman, Portrait of Christina, c.1913

Included are many of the defining names of the last century: Lewis Carroll, Roger Fenton, Ansel Adams, Don McCullin and Martin Parr among them. Their work spans landscapes, still lives, nudes, portraits, photo-reportage and composites and, seen here together, provides a fascinating account of the history of photographic practice.

Don't miss

A camera lucida sketchbook belonging to photography pioneer Henry Fox Talbot is one of the rare items on display from the medium's early invention in the 1800s.
