A display of 1,000 cups, with each containing instructions of a 'good deed'. Buy one and you pledge to carry out the deed

Clare Twomey, sketch for Exchange project, 2013

This exhibition explores ideas around charity, responsibility and trust, examining the powerful role that individuals and good deeds can play within the community.

Exchange consists of over 1,000 cups and saucers. On the base of each cup and in the indentation of its saucer is marked a commission to do a good deed. Each day, ten people will be invited to choose a cup at random from the hundreds laid out on tables. In exchange for agreeing to complete the deed, they may keep the cup.

The good deeds were suggested by the public in preparation for the show. During the run, as deeds are carried out, they will be recorded in the Foundling Museum and online.
