The first exhibition devoted to the brightest of the Bright Young People. Free admission.
Stephen Tennant (1906–1987) was the most decadent and eccentric of the Bright Young People. He was Rex Whistler's closest friend at the Slade, Siegfried Sassoon's lover and Cecil Beaton's muse, and he was immortalised by Evelyn Waugh and Nancy Mitford. Every day of his life he drew, painted, wrote poetry and composed extraordinary letters. This exhibition presents paintings, drawings, scrapbooks and ephemera from the museum's extensive collection, with a catalogue of essays by Philip Hoare, Max Egremont and Hugo Vickers. Admission to the exhibition is free, and Art Fund members receive half-price entry to the museum. 12 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.
