Dr Anna Milon’s talk reintroduces the Horned God as the 21st-century zeitgeist, delving into the figure’s emerging…
Please note this is an in-person lecture hosted at The Last Tuesday Society and NOT a ZOOM Lecture . The Horned God in the 21 st Century: Migrant, Shapeshifter, Rebel The God of the Old Religion becomes the Devil in the New. With these words, almost a century ago British archaeologist Margaret Alice Murray precipitated the popularisation of one of the most significant modern esoteric figures – the Horned God. To Murray he was the God of the Witches, the preeminent deity of a prehistoric fertility cult that, she theorised, survived alongside Christianity and came to be persecuted as witchcraft. Since Murray’s seminal work, the Horned God took many names and guises in both magical practice and popular culture. But whatever he is called, he is felt to be a necessary figure for our times.
