Portrait of George Boscawen, 3rd Viscount Falmouth by George Romney

Half-length portrait.

Oil on canvas
76 x 63.5 cm
Art Fund grant:

Acquired in:
Historical Portraits/ Philip Mould

A characteristic, polished work of the 1780s, perhaps the period when Romney was enjoying his reputation as a society portraitist to the full. The numerous recorded sittings that Lord Falmouth gave to Romney suggest two portraits were produced, and the timing of the commission suggests that it was for a marriage pair (although no companion portrait of his wife Anne Crewe is known).
