The name of Robert Masefield (or Macefield ) has survived mainly because of the practice of inscribing the register plates of barometers with his name.

Otherwise his career as a cabinet-maker and upholder was documented only by the brief entries in the few extant printed trade directories of the period. No item of furniture (other than the barometers) was known to be by him, nor had any bills or correspondence come to light.

Provenance

Private collection.
