Double-Barrelled Flintlock Sporting Gun

The stock is of walnut carved with anthemion and acanthus ornament into which are set the gun's silver cast-and-chased mounts.

Set into the wrist is the Arms of the recipient. The barrels are decorated with gilded patterns.


Commissioned by H.R.H. the Duc de Berry for presentation to Lt. Gen. George Don; by descent in the family of the recipient's wife until the 1950s; sold privately through several dealers and collectors until c.1987.
