The rim is inscribed in Old Persian: 'Artaxeres the great King, king of kings, king of countries, son of Xeres the king (who was) son of Darius the king; in whose house this silver bowl was made'.

Found before 1935, possibly in Hamadan in Western Iran; Sotheby's, 1970; Peter Adam collection until sold Sotheby's 1975; private collection.
