The ewer was commissioned at the same time as a dish which is already in the National Museum of Wales collection. The ewer has a high handle and spreading neck with folded lip which is a Medieval and Renaissance form. It is decorated in a similar way to the matching dish. On one side if the ewer we can see two men in combat and on the other a robed figure holding aloft a flaming staff over a woman bearing a sword and shield.
Provenance
Made for Samuel Rush Meyrick (1783-1848); Christie's, New York, 1993; Jonathan Harris, London.
