Edinburgh: Old Town by Michael Andrews

Andrews first visited Scotland in 1975.

Oil on canvas
185 x 274 cm
Art Fund grant:
£25,000 ( Total: £158,625)
Acquired in:
Anthony d'Offay Gallery

This work was made using photographs as sketches, but the relationships of the buildings to street and sky is partly invented. As much as a 'definition of appearance', it is also a meditation on the long history of a specific place in the heart of the Scottish capital.
