The cover has a slender baluster-finial, lobed disc-embossing, repeating design of fruit and foliage, engraved inside with a Tudor rose. Type of cup referred to in Tudor inventories as a Magdalin or Maudlyn Cup because they resemble the vessel containing ointment from 16th century paintings of Mary Magdalen.
