Bawden lived from 1932 in Great Bardfield, Essex.
The artist creates a somewhat disquieting atmosphere through the prominence given to the gnarled tree trunk in the centre, dominating & dividing what would otherwise be a tranquil rural scene.
Provenance
Mrs Hungerford Morgan; Fine Art Society.
