Portrait of a Gentleman

A Benedictine monk, this artist worked extensively for his order and for the court in Madrid before going to Rome.
His style is sober and realistic, owing a debt to Velazquez which has sometimes led his portraits to be confused with those of Velazquez' assistant and son-in-law, Mazo.
Given through the Lutece Foundation, New York.
