Depicts James, 1st Duke of Hamilton, and 3rd Marquess at the age of 23 when he moved to London.

Full-length, dressed in a silver-grey suit. A courtier, an inept diplomat and soldier, his support for Charles I led to his execution in 1649. Signed and dated: D Mijtens.
