Full-length portrait of Captain Wade, the Master of Ceremonies in Bath from 1769-77, painted for the Assembly Rooms.
Originally the background was a rural landscape but this was overpainted with a balustrade and steps.
Provenance
Commissioned by the proprietors of the assembly Rooms and hung in the Card Room of the New Rooms, until 1903; Lord Burton.
